Motivation waning?
Rather stay in bed than work on your biz?
Chucking sickies but the boss is you?
Oh sista I hear you!
I’ve been to that sucky place when you feel like everything in your business is shit and doesn’t make sense. When you don’t believe in anything you’re selling, the blog post ideas just won’t come and everything feels like wading through concrete.
You feel stuck. You doubt yourself. You get to the point where you want to tear it all down and start from scratch or just quit, run away and hide.
YOU’RE NOT ALONE!
There’s been a huge energy funk lately for so many amazing women I know in business. On the outside it looks like they’re killing it, but on the inside they’re feeling icky, nothing is flowing and they don’t know how to shift on back to that place of ease, flow and joy where you’re totally vibing with your creativity and your tribe are love, love, loving you.
When you’re so deep “in” your business and you’re drowning in your to do list, the last thing that’s going to come easy is creative, aligned ideas that flow out of you like Niagara Falls.
So here’s the one big tip I have for you if you’re feeling like this right now:
Step back, take a break and create some space.
When things are feeling sticky, it’s a sign that you’re working too hard, pushing too hard or that you’re so busy ‘doing’ you’ve forgotten how to be. So find a way to take a little time off to recharge your batteries.
I know it feels hard. Scary. Impossible. You feel like you can’t possibly take time off. You have a schedule to stick to, blog posts to write, social media to manage, but trust me:
The world won’t end, no one will forget you and your business won’t fall apart if you take a day off.
Plan a week or a weekend where you step away from the computer, switch off the phone, stay off social media and live a little.
Sleep in, watch TV, see your friends, go to yoga, get outdoors, read for fun, visit your Nanna or de-clutter the house.
Whatever you choose to do, make it stuff that feels fun, create space in your calendar where you have no plans, give yourself permission to make up the day as it comes, doing what you feel like doing and enjoying the heck out of it (especially if what you want to do is absolutely nothing at all)!
Here’s the thing… I know you love your business, I know you’re passionate about it, you started it to help others, make a difference and change your life and the lives of others, that’s great and that’s still true, but you can’t be the best you can be for the people you serve if you don’t look after yourself first.
Taking time out will help you get back to that inspired, connected place your business was originally born from so you can feel great about your business again.
So here’s the challenge – in the next 4 weeks, find at least two days where you can clear your calendar completely and create some good old fashioned ‘me’ time. Chill out, rest, recover, do what you want, or do nothing, but step away from your business, your to-do list and your self-imposed deadlines. Let yourself be and watch the passion + creativity come flowing back.
Keep me posted!
Sarah x
P.S. if you’d like a little help to get the joy and flow back in your business, let’s talk!
I love this Sarah. I always try to keep in mind that I have to work and create from a full cup, but it gets hard to justify the time off when you’re in business. We all start to get a little burnt out at this time of year I reckon. I’m going to schedule in a break this weekend for sure:-)
You’re so right Denise. Creating from a full cup is so much easier, but it can also be easy to ‘trade off’ with yourself or tell yourself you just don’t have time. I hear you there. For me, one of the things that’s helped the most is sneaking little moments or pockets of self-care as it’s much easier to achieve and I’m less likely to talk myself out of it. For example I’ll spend 2 minutes repeating affirmations, I’ll stop for 30 seconds and spray an aromatic mist around my desk, I’ll close my eyes for a minute and breathe or ask myself “what do I need right now?” (usually it’s to get up off my chair and have a snack or some water)! Having those little mini moments creates a lot less resistance for me than trying to do a 90 minute yoga class every day for example. I hope you had a wonderful weekend break and let me know how you go with your cup filling. 🙂
Oh, my I’m guilty as charged!! I check my phone every minute and I’m into social media most of the time. This is exhausting that sometimes I just want to stop. It’s about time I put everything into perspective. Thanks for sharing!!
So happy that you found this post helpful Glenda. I totally understand being trapped in that vortex of social media (and the constant need to ‘check in’ on your feeds too). I’ve found that removing notifications (or the social media apps) from my phone has helped a lot. Also, if you’re on a Mac computer, you can download an app on your laptop called “Self Control” which allows you to ‘block’ social media at certain times of the day (which you choose). It can be great if you want to get creative work done before you fall down the rabbit hole of social media each day! 🙂
My business, meaning my blog and Nutrition practice, has only been going for 2 months…… The way ahead is still long. However i catch myself so often starting to wonder if this will go anywhere (which it will, but i guess i have to be patient…..) Reading your post put a spring in my step again and motivated me. Thank you!
Oh I’m so glad the post helped Sally! I know it can feel daunting at times and there’s so much to learn, especially when you’re starting out, but keep up the amazing work and remember why you started your blog and Nutrition practice in the first place. Keep shining and keep believing in yourself beautiful. You can do it. x
This is so true! I’ve found that when I’m on social media too much, or I’m thinking about my business all the time .. I get burnt out. Taking a break is just the thing … whether that’s for a day, or a week or longer if necessary. It sounds counter intuitive, but it really does work.
Couldn’t agree more Cori! Keeping it balanced is so important. 🙂
